Building my own M4 CLONE

Recommended Posts

Just purchased a brand new Toolcraft F/A carrier that has been Ionbonded by Springer Precision.

$75 Shipped> Trying something different, any input or comments ? Know wherre I can get an FN bolt for it?

Should I be concerned about headspace when I build the upper? Probably not, all the rest of the parts will be "mil.spec"

Personally I always check headspace. Its cheap and saves you a lot of headache. Even if you do not measure the head space, I would at the least run a set of go no-go gauges. As for building the BCG, what all needs done? Key already looks installed and staked.

Yeah Ill get a gonogo gauge. I go it today, and key is staked perfectly. Gotta find a nice bolt, FP, retainer, and cam pin now.

Damn thing is prety, and very slick. its gonna be nice when I'm all done building the rifle. Get a decent 1/7 CL HF barrel, 14.5", pre 1994 lower, then NFA it as an SBR, then get me a can. M4 SOPMOD block II. Picked out the stock already too. Fucking Daniel Defense FDE M4 12" RIS II is over 300 simolians tho...

I know , YHM rail. I'm stuck on this idea of a true clone, but after loking at what Colt socom barrels are going for, trying to purchase th propper cage code optics, silincer and adapter, im looking at $2500.

I am sure I will compromise. Or be patient and wait cuz i kow, like buying Volvo parts, some poor starving bastard will need to dump his gear on the cheap to pay the rent on his double wide.

Received 2 firing pins, 2 cam pins, and I got a set of gas rings for back up parts.

retaining pin, and bolt and that piece of the puzzle is in the bag. No bolt sources? I'm looking at the usual suspects. any cute ideas , I will listen.

alos all eyes open for a decent 14.5" barrel. Low round count used is ok. Stripped is OK. Carbine gas sytem only.

Should change this to "MY M4 Build"

Oh wait I'm a MOD I has POWWAAHHHHS!

DONE.

Hehehe...intoxicating.

Hey, Boss, can I edit the content of Mikes posts to make him look like a John Bircher?

Guess I will now be posting pics of parts incoming or desired. Plus regular updates. I will try to present lower receiver assembly, show some cool ideas and tools I use. Its easy yet can be a big pain. I got a few detent springs and pins in the dark nether regions of my work space.

Oh Darwin, where for art thou?

Any way another score today, BNIB, FN ,MPI ,HPT bolt! 158 carpenter I'm sure. This BCG project is gonna run about $170. FP was like $7, cam pin $3, BC $75, bolt $75, and FP retaining pin $2. Pretty good for A-1 parts.

I'll gather the parts I have and take some pics this weekend.

The search continues for an H2 buffer. Hopefully used and cheap. Fulton Armory for the rest of the upper receiver parts, gas tube and pin, barrel nut. I have my upper receiver, LPK, mil.spec 4 position lower receiver extension, buffer spring, pistol grip. Gotta decide on a gas block after I get the barrel. That also could be influenced by the quad rail I get. Front sight will be a folding rail mount. Hopefully I can find a KAC, taupe folder but them suckers are like $150. Used. Other options are possible. I already have a Daniel Defense fixed rear iron, $50, trying to stay with cage coded gear as best I can. And not spend a ton. Optics will be considered but I bet I can get an M2 or M3 Aimpoint on a Bobro, Larue or ADM QD mount for about $400.

Starving art students spill your gear!!!

COMPS?

Not familiar with your hiphop language usage. And its a weapon or a rifle not a gun...

" This is my weapon, and this is my gun, one is for fighting the other for fun..."

You sing this holding your rifle above your head, grabbing your ball bag and running in a circle. You have screwed up. That's first week of Basic Training 101.

Its an attempt to build a clone of a very popular issued firearm, M4A1 SOPMOD Block II,mostly used by SOCOM, SOF, and other really well trained, high speed, low drag men that kick in doors in the middle of the night to grab really bad, well trained, religious ideologues hell bent on blowing up you and your kids.

And with the 14.5 " barrel it is appropriate to use as a home defense weapon. My current rifle has the same length. It balances very well and swings in the hallway free and clear.

Other accessories may include a PEQ 15 or laser illuminator, a high lumen flashlight, a illuminated reticule optic, magnified or not, and possibly a night vision scope, and provisions for a silencer. All said and done if I built this to spec, I'd be looking at about $4000-5000. Plus $400 in NFA taxes for the can and the short barrel (It has to be 16" or longer) But I'm not completely retarded. A Colt barrel for $350 can be replaced with a mil.spec vendor part for $175, and so on. I will be cheating big time and leaving out many, many parts.

The NFA stuff is on the build list however! After all, Obama wants a safe work environment, so a silencer is the best form of ear protection ever made.

Here's some of the accessories that are used, its not the latest however. Followed by a facsimile. Followed by some of 'those guys'. Notice how much equipment is on that rifle, and on the soldier. Actually its probably a Marine judging by how he has his sleeves rolled up. No silencer present there.

The above pics were snatched from the thread linked below, on Ar15.com, http://www.ar15.com/index.html

Read this thread for configuration, history, and deployment. There are very smart users and builders of this platform in that thread.

I won't be covering that stuff, I will consult with The Omnipotent One about possibly transferring this thread to the Guide Forum.

Not yet. I'm not ready to enter the world of .30 caliber. I need to get an upper and lower action block so I can start buuilding these assemblies. The rest of my upper parts on the way. Need lower receiver, hopefully preban, 14.5 barrel, barrel nut, and rail system. Oh damn, muzzle device for a can, front folding iron sight, and an H2 buffer.

That should do it. Once I get the parts and the upper action block, I'll start assembly and talk you folks thru the operation with a few pics. It will be my first upper build, so I aint an M4 armorer, but I'll muddle thru with some of the great tools ive got. Some unique tools i will give you links to. hand made USA stuff. I'm a tool freeak, and could get by with drift punches but I'm a geek and I do what geeks do. Over engineer and tinker.
