Magpul AFG-2 Review

As is usually the case with Magpul, they have released another quality product. The AFG-2 is the perfect add-on for anyone looking for a low drag fore grip option. I usually shy away from the vertical grips as I find they tend to snag on my gear, but hours with your weapon does take its toll on your joints and form. When shopping around for this grip, take care not to buy the PTS (professional training and simulation) version as it is much lower quality and not intended to be mounted on a full functioning rifle. As of the publish date, the lowest price I have found on the AFG-2 is here: Magpul AFG-2 Grip

Upon unpacking, you will find the instructions on the inside of the box. While installation is fairly straight forward, it simply bolts to any Picatinny rail via one screw, replacing the finger shelf actually requires some work. The fact that the shelf does not simply snap in impressed me. This grip is built very well and survives any impact you can throw at it. While I usually like the finger shelf, they can be annoying when mounting on something like a KSG shotgun.

My one complaint on this grip is the fact that Magpul used their customary flathead screw. The do the same thing on their UBR stocks. On something like this it makes no sense to me why they would not use a torx or at the least a hex bolt. That said its not a Magpul install until you scratch your receiver or stab your leg.

While it is easy to rate this product based on construction, its actual functionality is something that is far more subjective. For this reason the more feedback we gather from different scenarios the more relivant the review is.
